One year ago today this world lost a very unique individual. He was by all accounts a very outspoken man. There was no gray area with him. It was black or white. He said whatever was on his mind and if you didnt like what he said, well that was just to damn bad. He was a proud American, veteran and member of the Guernsey County Veterans Council as well a life time member of VFW Post 3760. A friend to many but to me and my family he was simply a dad, grandfather and friend. To me he was more than just my dad and friend, he was my hero. I wanted to share the poem that i read at his funeral last year. The words in this poem will always have a very personal meaning to me for the rest of my life. Dad i love you and i miss you just as much today as i did the day you went away. You will live on forever in our hearts and minds and I know that I will see you again someday. Vincit Amor Patriae My Hero As I ponder the love I saw in his eyes, A Godly love, given without compromise... I recall many times that he stood by my side, And prodded me on with great vigor and pride. His voice ever confident, firm and yet fair, Always speaking with patience, tenderness and care. The power and might of his hands was so sure, I knew there was nothing we couldnt endure. Its true,a few others provided insight, Yet he laid the foundation that kept me upright. Hes the grandest of men to have lived on this earth, Although hes not royal by stature or birth. Hes a man of great dignity, honor and strength. His merits are noble, and of admirable length. Hes far greater than all other men that I know. Hes my dad,hes my mentor,my friend and hero.
