Ongoing and upcoming community events Ongoing The Coalition of Powhatan Churches needs drivers for clients to go to doctor appointments and small errands as present volunteers are being overwhelmed with requests. Upcoming The Powhatan Garden Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 6 at St. John Neumann Church, Father Val Hall Refreshments are served at 7 p.m. and meeting and program start at 7:30 p.m. November’s guest is Sue Becker, a Master Gardener currently residing in Bedford County who will speak about Putting the Garden to Bed! about fall gardening. A free recycling event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the War Memorial Building, 2375 Skaggs Road. The event will feature electronics recycling and secure paper shredding. A ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the new playground equipment at Fighting Creek Park will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13. The event is free and open to the public. The Mistletoe Market will feature more than 30 crafters and vendors at the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Pocahontas Elementary School, 4294 Anderson Highway. Admission is free.
