Onions and its snake-driving property. In the 18th century, there was just what people especially those living in the hintherland normally do with onion bulbs around their vicinity. They would gather them and after deskinning them they drop them indiscriminately around their home particularly in a snake-prone area. They used to say that if the snake crawls into the environment where this miracle bulb is exposed and inhales the savory emanating from the background, the snake might die or scamper with alacrity for safety. But little about this belief and its principle was known. But not until recently,Through research scientists were able to analyze critically the chemistry behind the mystery. They however elicited the phytochemical example sulfur compound and reported that this very sulfur compound is responsible for that particular characteristics exhibited by onion bulbs. They further maintained that when this sulfur react with air(Nitrogen,Oxygen,CO2,etc.)it forms Sulfur-oxide,Sulfur-nitrate/nitrite,etc.The latter compound then goes in and appendage the lungs against inhalation thereby leading to sovocation and if still remain there could cause them death. Therefore the good news is that onions does not only impact, relish, add flavor to our recipes,or can it only be taken for its medicinal propensity but can also be used to leave a footprint in the sense of time by extracting this compound in them and be selling them as crawler-driving agents.....
