Online electronic music portal Factmag is running news of a Red Bull Music Academy documentary series on how Japanese computer game music has influenced popular culture. As interesting as that may be, wheres the music for those of us brought up on raucous V8 noises? This comes to mind as weve spotted this 1983 Aston Martin V8 Vantage X-Pack Sports Saloon up for sale with Bonhams at its Goodwood Revival sale, which occurs in a couple of weeks. A youth spent revelling in glorious V8 noises surely should be replicated in music somehow – and not just in rock music, its usual natural repository. Any particular albums that match engine notes completely? Let us know below. Anyway, to the Aston – this Vantage was converted to X-Pack spec four years ago and has done just 20,000 miles since. That X-packness – were coining terms now – involves a fair degree of fettling and up to 430bhp. Compared to its contemporaries, such as the Ferrari 512BB and Lamborghini Countach, that meant vast speed but with the ability to fit two more supermodels in your supercar than the Italians – and thats what matters at 180mph, obviously... Its suitably imposing, and is estimated at £120k to £160k. We want it, deeply. More details at bonhams.
