Online forum offers Libyans opportunity to discuss constitutional drafting process By Libya Herald staff. Cairo, 6 January 2015: A new initiative called the Agora Libyan Constitution Project is being targeted at Libyans worldwide to give them the opportunity to network together and discuss their thoughts about the new constitution. The initiative will offer several of what it is calling “online town halls” – providing a forum to educate participants on the constitutional issues and processes as well as to enable participants to voice opinions and hear from others with different viewpoints. The “town halls” will focus on three main constitutional themes: political structure and institutions; rights and freedoms; and public services. The initiative has been spearheaded by a group of young professionals, mostly Libyan, based out of Harvard University in Boston, all of whom are working on this project on a voluntary basis. Their stated goal is to encourage discourse between people who have different perspectives and to explore how compromise might be reached. The group said that while they cannot guarantee that the ideas that emerge the online forums will influence the Constitutional Drafting Assembly (CDA), they do have contacts within the CDA and plan to submit a summary of the Agora projects findings. Those wishing to join the forum can visit agoralibya.org. Read more: libyaherald/2015/01/06/online-forum-offers-libyans-opportunity-to-discuss-constitutional-drafting-process/#ixzz3O4L6Lsk2
