Only 14% Police Sub Inspector have email accounts 08/06/2013 As the part of a series of training on financial rules, I lectured with some 28 Community Policing Officers (CPOs). CPOs are sub inspectors of Bangladesh Police who are assigned to coordinate community policing and crime prevention activities on behalf of the officer-in-charge of a police station. They are also given the responsibilities to spend fund from the Police Reform Programme to make the community policing forums functional. In their attendance sheet I put a column for email account numbers. While scrutinizing I found that only 4 officers got email accounts. I raised the questions and confirmed that no other officers actually use email. Among the 4 officers who has an email account only one uses Facebook. All those officers were from Khulna and Dhaka Range including the Khulna Metropolitan Police. From this random sampling I assume that only 14% officers of sub-inspector level of Bangladesh police uses email and only 4% use the social communication media Facebook. I don’t know about officers of other departments. But I can guess the scenario is more or less the same.
