Only 48 hours after the announcement of the Council election, - TopicsExpress

Only 48 hours after the announcement of the Council election, celebration has been short with the Signing of Election certificate not until Wednesday. Today I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at the unveiling of the South Sudan commemorative stone at the International Wall of Friendship on behalf of the City of Hobart With more than 8million people in South Sudan, over 2.5 million have been tragically killed and millions more displaced. Over the years, this war torn nation, now the world’s youngest nation is improving although the nation’s greatest enemy today is famine. Countries around the world have opened their doors to many Sudanese refugees and the City of Hobart is proud in a small way to welcome the South Sudan community to our City. We will continue to welcome this community because Hobart is very proud of its diverse multicultural societies. We are very proud to have approximately 100 families in our Community and 32 students at UTAS. Tomorrow I will represent the Lord Mayor Elect and welcome 40 new Australian Citizens to our City
