Only a 1/4 of the 360 psychiatrist offices contacted by this study (in Boston, Houston and Chicago) would let you make an appointment. And for offices that were actually taking on new clients there was an average waiting time of 25 days for a first visit. Whats your experience if you have tried to get an appointment with a new psychiatrist? If your symptoms are moderate it is often worth getting your therapist to talk with your primary care doctor to try the first line antidepressants and then go to a psychiatrist if they are not working. Severe symptoms need a psychiatrists specialist knowledge though.
