Only a few days until we begin the Baoshan Gaoligong Mountains - TopicsExpress

Only a few days until we begin the Baoshan Gaoligong Mountains Nature Reserve Project Site Expedition. Once again thanks to our sponsors for making this possible. Over the next few days in the lead up to the expedition I want to give thanks to some of our major supporters and co-organisers. Firstly, you can get a better idea of what this is all about by reading a paper I published with Dr Ed Jocelyn on the feasibility of establishing Chinas first long distance designated hiking trail: Walking the Ancient Tea Horse Road’, Journal of Tourism Consumption and Practice, 6: 1, pp. 1-27. Available here at: tourismconsumption.org/JTCAPV6N1JOC&SIG.pdf This now gives me the opportunity to introduce you to Dr Jocelyn, or Ed as he will now be known. Ed is a dual British-Australian citizen fluent in Chinese, Russian and French, and of course English. Ed is a major figure in the Chinese outdoor scene, having completed a trek of the entire Long March many years ago. With his colleague and co-hiking enthusiast Yang Xiao, Ed runs Red Rock Treks: redrocktrek Red Rock Treks is a very innovative hiking company that is doing its bit for both the preservation and revitalisation of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Their specialty is to take treks along remnants to the tea road using locally hired muleteers and mule/horse caravans. If you visit the website you will see plenty of examples of what they do. Ive been working closely with Ed these last few years on this project to put the discussion of the sustainable use of the outdoors in China on the agenda. I believe our efforts, along with the support of those I will mention in the coming days, are beginning to show results.
