Only a few hours left till I fly off to Istanbul! So excited to see, smell, feel and taste everything. Background research has been happening for a while now and has included watching Kuzey Guney (yes, I am justifying watching a cheesy TV soap by passing it off as an educational pursuit) and Babam ve Oglum (now one of my favourite movies), reading so much (My Name is Red the Museum of Innocence, and the Innocence of Objects by Orhan Pamuk, Elif Shafaks Bastard of Istanbul, Yasar Kemals All the Birds Have Also Gone…I may have also skimmed through a few books about the mystical Ottoman harems, you cant possibly blame me) - thank you Nida for letting me use your Tcard. I also had the fortune of befriending some awesome Turkish people who taught me all about Pide, Revani, Asure, Dolma, and the Imam who Fainted (>>>>I have a LOT of space in my suitcase in case anyone wants to have something (legal) transported :)))
