Only about 3,000 tigers remain in the wild in 13 Asian countries. With populations threatened by habitat loss, poaching, and isolation, the #SmithsonianConservationBiologyInstitute and Wildlife institute of india have partnered to enhance tiger conservation efforts. Using non-invasive genetic analysis of tiger scat (poop), they were able to identify 169 individual tigers and their movements. Scientists found that tigers use forest corridors to migrate between reserves. The species’ long-term survival is possible only if the separate reserves can remain connected, allowing for unrelated tigers to breed and reproduce. Scientists have proposed conservation measures, such as implementing green infrastructure granting legal protections to these specific pathways. These actions would help restore habitat connectivity and safeguard the future of wild tiger survival. You can help ignite change!
