Whilst sitting biting my nails I remembered this incredibly insightful debate we had at the Union last term and wanted to share it with you. https://youtube/watch?v=2pNV7mzsqzg&t=35m15s Since 1815, the Union has held a big debate like this every Thursday night. Topics range from international relations to dubstep (goo.gl/xYnAD2), allowing students to argue directly alongside (or against) famous figures such as Nigel Farage, Rowan Williams or Germaine Greer. Unlike in 1815, everybody has the right to make speeches, ask questions and interrupt with points of their own. Highlights from the past year include This House Regrets the Rise of New Atheism (goo.gl/zncX8Z), This House Believes Feminism Should Exclude Men (goo.gl/FjiPKc) and This House Would Send Its Children to Private School. Debate nights are a social highlight of the Cambridge week and draw hundreds of students into the Unions historic debating Chamber (and, of course, into the Union bar afterwards, where the debate continues informally into the early hours!).
