Only when unaffirmed people are unselfishly loved by another will - TopicsExpress

Only when unaffirmed people are unselfishly loved by another will they dare to lower their mask little by little, to play their role less rigidly in the realization that they are allowed to be who they really are; in this way they will find new strength and energy, will breathe more easily in the enlarging psychic sphere they share with the other, and thus will find joy in living. Without the loving other, life has little significance for unaffirmed persons locked within themselves, and they can mean but little to others. The suffering of the unaffirmed person was well described by Jean-Paul Sartre, himself without a father and raised as an only child by a childlike mother, when he wrote, My loneliness is my prison, my punishment for a crime I am not aware of. --Healing the Unaffirmed: Recognizing Emotional Deprivation Disorder
