Ontario Newsroom Ontario Newsroom News Release Ontario Announces Trade Mission to China October 1, 2014 Premier Wynne to Showcase Ontario Businesses to Help Attract Investments, Create Jobs Across the Province Premier Kathleen Wynne announced today that she is going on a trade mission to China to build new partnerships and attract investments which will lead to new jobs across Ontario. The mission builds on Ontarios Going Global Trade Strategy to help the provinces businesses - particularly small- to medium- sized enterprises - expand into priority markets such as China. The mission will help showcase Ontarios expertise in clean tech and science and technology, increase the provinces international profile and support a dynamic and innovative business climate. Ontarios large and active Chinese-Canadian community creates a natural connection which fosters closer trade ties and makes Ontario an attractive destination for Chinese investment. The mission will take place October 25 to November 1, and will feature meetings with key Chinese government decision-makers and leaders in the business community. The mission will travel to Nanjing, which is in Ontarios sister province Jiangsu, as well as Shanghai and Beijing. On October 29, Premier Wynne will join the Premiers of Prince Edward Island and Quebec in Beijing for the Council of the Federation mission to reinforce a shared commitment to fostering stronger ties with China. Attracting new investments and helping the provinces businesses compete globally is part of the governments plan to build Ontario up by investing in people, building modern infrastructure and supporting a dynamic and innovative business climate. QUICK FACTS This is Premier Kathleen Wynne’s first international trade mission as Premier. China is Ontario’s second-largest trading partner in the world. More than 710,000 Ontarians are of Chinese origin. The Ontario delegation will include Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, and Michael Chan, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade. Approximately 60 Ontario businesses and organizations in the clean tech and science and technology sectors will also participate. Ontario maintains two International Marketing Centres in China to promote the province and its many investment and business opportunities. The Shanghai office opened in 2002 and the Beijing office opened in 2007. October 1 is National Day in China, to celebrate the formation of the People’s Republic of China. Premier Wynne is attending a ceremonial flag-raising at Queen’s Park today to mark the occasion.
