Deserving special mention is the role played by the immediate past Governor of the State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, who ensured that the company became vibrant, viable, lucrative and enticing to investors. Procuring new buses for them, and injecting administrative egg heads into the running of that transport company. It is to the credit of Chief Ohakim that ITC, became the pride of the East and the envy of the entire nation. Ohakim understood what really matters, he appreciated ITCs capacity to productively engage hundreds of Imolites and enhance the economy of the State. Ohakim understood that a Governor cannot directly provide for all the people, all the time, but made it a point of duty to ensure that he used his office as Governor to pursue and implement those policies and programs that would make it possible for any industrious Imolite to thrive in his or her chosen area of endeavour. Ohakim believes in guaranteeing freedom and justice to the larger chunk of the place, for he believes that the free man, is the productive man, and the productive man is a powerful man. Ohakim does not believe in ruling over a powerless people. He thrives on the PDP philosophy of power to the people. Owelle Rochas Okorocha is a completely different kettle of insipid fish. He believes in systematically rendering a larger chunk of the populace poor and helpless, so that they can always rely on him for their survival. Owelle is a slave driver, who believes that putting a larger chunk of the populace in chains, will make it easier for him to deceive them. Okorocha believes in weakening the people, so that he can ruin them without getting any resistance from them. There is no argument about the reality that Owelles most important leadership strategy is mass deceit. Back to the subject matter. I was contacted by one of the numerous franchise owners in ITC, who led me into the dirty details of Okorochas deceit in ITC, since 2011. He lamented that his personal investment of more than 3.5 million Naira into ITC, is almost gone down the drain. According to him, since the taking over of ITC management by a company called Ginikana which is allegedly owned by a kinsman of the Governor, one Emeka Duru, ITC has become a den of deceit. My informant informed me that the original agreement reached between the ITC management and the franchise owners makes it possible for the ITC management to keep 20% of whatever is realized from any trip, while the franchise owners get 80% with which they service and fuel the vehicles, pay their drivers and take care of other expenses. This arrangement, according to my informant whose name I chose to keep anonymous, was very lucrative for both the franchise owners and the State Government till the fraudulent takeover of ITC by Ginikana. From the day, Ginikana took over the management of ITC, the franchise owners started noticing, deferment in payments; from weeks, it ran into months, and at the moment, franchise owners have not received a dime from all the monies made from their vehicles throughout 2013, it needs no mentioning that this amount runs into hundreds of millions of Naira. Rather than seek for ways of offsetting the accumulated bills, Emeka Duru in consonance with the Governor decided to shortchange majority of the franchise owners by settling the franchise executive, headed by one Beneph. This situation has led to the Franchise association becoming moribund, as the compromised executive has refused to summon a meeting of the association for over one year now. I am yet to conclude investigations on the First Ladys link to this disheartening fraud. IMO GA ADI MMA OZO!
