Oops sorry guys I was making the rough draft of another super-awesome JCL thing (coughcoughpacketawardcoughcough) and so I forgot to announce first place! In first place, we have...Advanced Math and Science Academy! The first service project AMSA participated in was the state-wide project , Letters to Soldiers. Not only did members of the club write letters to soldiers, but they also made decorative, secular holiday cards wishing soldiers overseas a nice holiday and thanking them for their continual service. Club members used paint, glitter, and all sorts of markers to make the most beautiful cards they could for these soldiers. In each of the cards or letters, AMSA JCL members talked about how they were a member of JCL and some even detailed their experiences in Latin Club. The second community service initiative the club participated in was Wreath Making. Since 2012, the club VPs have made it a point to start a tradition of wreath making. These wreaths then adorn a local nursing home. The camaraderie experienced during the wreath making sessions was indescribable. As AMSA stated, at the meeting, the looks on everyones faces as they spent an hour fixing the ornaments onto the wreaths was priceless. AMSAs hope was to emphasize how important Latin and Classical education is in the world today. While some may see the degradation wreaking havoc in society today, we want to express our belief that Classics still matter to us and that the traditional core values that appraise honor and virtue matter to us still (Just because a lot of the Roman authors consecrate those values and well-versed people, usually of advanced age, consider that to go hand in hand with Latin learning). AMSA also participated in a skit featuring pumpkin spice lattes and Roman First World Problems at the Classics Day in Boston University. In addition, the club made hilarious posters for publicity and posted them throughout the school, encouraging children in the lower school to join Latin Club. Thanks to Hanna Seariac for submitting this swagtastic project!
