Open letter to ASUP president(chibuzor asomugba). TIME TO CHANGE TACTICS Dear president, it is with great pains and frustration i write this open letter to you regarding the acclaim ongoing nationwide strike which your union resumed on october 4th, 2013. After a failed attempt to compel federal government to implement aggrement reached with ASUP using 3months strike earlier from april 27th to july 16th, 2013. Unlike your counterpart ASUU, which i believe was more proactive and cooperative with their struggle in compeling FG to do the needful in the university sub-sector, which FG conceded to ASUUs demand. ASUP has been docile and uncooperative. Sir, it will intrest you to know that 80% of state government owned polytechnic are currently on session including plateau state polytechnic of which your publicity secretary Mr. Chirman Clement is a lecturer, likewise some federal polytechnic like federal polytechnic: ILARO, YABATECH, AUCHI, IDAH etc. Have either resumed or were not even part of the strike. Sir, i am compel to ask if your publicity secretary cannot enforce the strike directives in his constituency, how then will other branches of the union comply with the strike directives?? Because this was not the case with ASUU as no university whether state/federal was on session during the strike. Sir, the era of fighting FG at the comfort of your house and granting telephone interview is no longer fashionable. ASUP can emulate ASUU by mobilizing her members from each chapters nationwide to protest the refusal of FG in implementing the aggrement reached with the union, on the other hand, top officials of your union can regroup at the complex of the federal ministry of education Abuja to protest. With this change in tactics, i believe FG will be compel to shift grounds because the heat will be so much for government to bear. Lastly sir, when ASUU was on strike, even the market women and laymen were aware of the grievances of the union because of ASUUs tactics in handling the media. I believe if you attend more talk shows on t.v, radio interview, and also grant print media more interviews to update and educate Nigerians about the development on the strike, the students, parents and stakeholders will support ASUP in ensuring FG do the needful in Nigeria polytechnics. Sir, I believe if you change your tactics, rather than keeping the students in darkness, ASUP can also achieve what your counterpart in ASUU achieved. Thanks, Comrade KING MICHAEL
