Open letter to (below) to RSGB Dear John (G4TSN) Ref Cover Driveage Prediction Maps downloaded for 4m, and 23cms for a soon to be proposed repeater in Birmingham. I am not so impressed with the results for the predictions for our 23cms repeater, that clearly must be wrong. *RIRO* Problems that need to be addressed on the Coverage Prediction map program are three-fold. I understand there has to be some kind of input: however, an antenna type input, especially for 23cms seems lacking, and needs be addressed What antennas do the coverage maps relate to? Isotropic, dipole, 1/4, 1/2 5/8, electrically adjusted pattern, parabolic, or Alfrod Slot or whatever? You see my point? I feel we need to communicate with the writers of the code for this program. I would like to request they provide-allow an antenna type in their calculations, otherwise the plot is meaningless. Am I missing something here, John? 23, 13cms, 9cm and 3cms need specific inputs to be meaningful. VHF and UHF repeaters have a much easier time of it than the microwave bands as the antenna type can be predicted. However, when moving to SHF the antenna requirement is somewhat different. Might I request the Coverage Prediction map program be split in two categories, that is: VHF-UHF the other category being SHF? I thoroughly understand the work involved in such a project might be considerable, but the RSGB has a role here to play and resources to fund this most vital of programs. Looking forward to your view and pressing attention on the matter. 73 de Tony G6YPK
