Opened in the month of February in 1949, this was Brownsvilles first Dairy Queen which was located at 239 w. Elizabeth. In 1952 The dairy Queen moved down the street to 454 w. Elizabeth (Lindas Cake shop parking lot). The Dairy Queen on Elizabeth closed in the late 60s and in 1972 a newer DQ opened on Palm blvd across from Sharp Elem. The original DQ building opened as Clarks Dairy Burger in 1957 As I remember, Dairy Burger served a really good burger and chips. Dairy Burger lasted til the 70s. Eventually, a BBQ restaurant opened but it didnt make a hit. I can almost smell the grill at Dairy Burger. I remember my grandfather parking on the side of the street. He would have me use the walk up pick up window. The front of the restaurant was a large window (White sign in photo) where you could see your order being made.
