Opening at NHTV Research for an experienced programmer (3 to 5 - TopicsExpress

Opening at NHTV Research for an experienced programmer (3 to 5 days a week for 1 year) The media research lab of the Academy for Digital Entertainment of the NHTV University of Applied Sciences will have an opening for an experienced game programmer or scientific programmer starting August 15th 2014 (starting date negotiable). The NHTV The Academy for Digital Entertainment consists of our award-wining IGAD game program, our very popular IMEM media program and two masters courses on Media and Games. We are located in the NHTV main building, Mgr Hopmansstraat 1, Breda. This is within walking distance from Breda train station. The medialab is an research and experimentation lab for exploring new directions in games and digital media. We are equipped with the latest in media and game technology (large CAVE, 3x Oculus, Oculus HD, Glass, Hydra, Leap, Kinect v2, eye tracking and psycho-physiological data acquisition). The position The position will be funded for one year, for at least three days a week. There will likely be an extension to a fourth day a week and, upon satisfactory performance, additional extensions to five days a week and/or into the second year. These extensions depend on external funding. The new hire will mainly work on the implementation and refinement of a framework for psycho-physiological data collection in games, funded by a Demonstrator grant. The hire will build a library that can interface with various devices that measure bodily state (such as heart rate equipment, muscle sensors, temperature sensors). The library will collect these signals, interpret them and send them on to the game environment, where they will be used to adjust the difficulty of the game depending on the players physical state. Next to the library, you will implement a demonstration game or adapt an existing game for use. For this project, knowledge of C/C++ and knowledge of or willingness to learn Python are a requirement. Knowledge of Unity3D/C#, Arduino, sensor hardware and networking protocols is a plus. We anticipate that you will also work on our virtual supermarket environment. The supermarket is programmed in Unity3D and runs in the CAVE (four large projected walls, movement tracking with kinect, interaction via wiimote). This environment allows researchers to study behavior in a real-life setting while commercial partners are interested in using it as a test bed for product development and shop design. Likely projects are the implementation of Kinect v2; perspective adjustments; avatar logic; fine tuning and optimization; and any suggestions you have. For inquiries and further information, please contact Dr. Dirk P. Janssen, [email protected] To apply for this position, please visit nhtv.nl/ENG/working-at-nhtv/vacancies.html. Note that the job has not been published there yet. Closing date will be announced when the official job posting is made.
