Operation moving the chicken coop has been accomplished. Thanks to Philip and Phil for your help! We learned three things: 1) OMG mosquitos....WHERE did these come from? And WHY is it like 80 degrees and 60% humidity at the end of September. 2) Even when you lead them all the way to the new location with grain (chickens that is...not mosquitoes), they dont always remember where that new location is. 3) It is no fun, after you are already cleaned up, to realize that you have to go out, as it gets darker and darker, still too warm, while fending off hordes of mosquitoes (dont they go away when it is dark), to cajole, herd, or otherwise snatch and grab chickens that forgot where their coop was to get them into said coop. All but two made it in, most under protest. The two at the top of the brush pile will just have to make it on their own tonight. At least it isnt supposed to snow.
