Operations manager at profitable, 120 person startup (Flatiron) compensation: salary + equity Mixpanel is opening our first satellite office in NYC and we want your help. The home office is in San Francisco, where we have 120 staff. 5 of us are coming to start the NYC office, and we expect to grow to 30+ by the end of 2015. To be able to do that, we need someone to keep things running smoothly. The Job Operations is the lifeblood of the company. This is the team that rolls up their sleeves and gets things done. The name of the game is VARIETY. Operations managers at Mixpanel are human resources, accounts receivable, accounts payable, office management, event planning, facilities, and more. We need your help to do all sorts of essential things, including (but not limited to!): * day-to-day office stuff (supplies, meals, groceries, etc) * vendor relations & purchasing * facilities management * event organization and logistics * onboarding/offboarding of employees * team building activities There should be a healthy mix of day-to-day stuff and challenging projects. In the past, the Ops team has: * thrown two conferences (mixpanel/ddc2014) * managed yearly company ski trips (its not easy to find accomodations for 100+ people during the height of ski season) * managed the due diligence process for our recent $65M round of funding * conducted a 6mo search for the perfect office space, and managed the design and buildout of said space We currently have two people filling this role in SF. They were both lawyers before they came here (which isnt a requirement, by any means, but its come in handy). We have a strong tendency of hiring people who seem like theyre overqualified for the role. So if you think youre overqualified, but want to learn more about what makes a startup tick, keep reading. What you need to be successful You need to be incredibly organized and detail-oriented. We are growing this company crazy fast (we tripled headcount this year, and last year) and that comes with lots of logistical issues. The more organized you are, the better you will be able to help us manage this process well. You need to have a good attitude. A lot of the stuff you will work on will not be glamorous, but it will all be crucial. Our most important cultural value--across the entire company--is the idea of being down for the cause (DFTC). That means that you should never hear someone say thats not my job - instead, theyll pitch in and help with whatever needs doing. You need to be hyper-competent. General competence is sort of a meta-skill, a combination of grit, hard work, and problem-solving ability. When people talk about you, they should say Oh X? Yeah, X really has their shit together. We want you to be able to handle anything the world throws at us. Finally, you need to really like people, and like helping them do their job. This is a high-leverage role; the things you do should help LOTS of people do their jobs better. If that isnt what motivates you, its not the right fit. More about Mixpanel: Mixpanel is the most advanced analytics platform for mobile & web applications. We help companies understand how people use the things they build. This helps them figure out what works, what doesnt, and build better products. We have a strongly collaborative culture (see DFTC, above), and value transparency, growth, and data-driven decision making. Mixpanel has grown very rapidly in the last few years. We had 13 staff at the start of 2013, 38 by 2014, and 120 now. This kind of growth is exciting, challenging, and a little scary. If youve ever thought of working for a startup, this is the experience you want. On the financial side: * weve been profitable since February 2012 * we just raised a $65M round from Andreessen Horowitz, valuing the company at $865M Applying for the position: Please apply at https://boards.greenhouse.io/mixpanel/jobs/43944. In your cover letter, please describe the most logistically challenging situation youve dealt with in your career. ---- Mixpanel is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer supporting workforce diversity.
