Oportunidade para candidatura a Research Associate - Department/Division/Faculty Investigative Medicine Section, Hammersmith Campus Full-time, fixed-term for two years Salary £32,750 - £41,540 per annum Closing Date : 23 July 2014 (midnight BST) The College cannot normally apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship for this post under Tier 2 of the UK Border Agency’s Points Based System. Any candidate, who is considering applying for this position and requires sponsorship, must ensure that they are able to obtain permission to work in the UK through an appropriate immigration route. This is a two year post funded by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. The successful applicant will investigate how fatty acids in palm oil are sensed in the gastrointestinal track and produce appetite regulating signals. Obesity currently kills 1000 people per week in the UK alone and this figure is rising exponentially. The aim of the project is to investigate the impact of diet fat on the appetite signal generated in the gut. You will be working as part of a team with Professor Gary Frost and others. You will have a PhD degree (or equivalent professional qualification and experience) in neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline, and have knowledge of appetite regulation systems, primary cell culture, adiposity physiology and metabolism, and knowledge of the physiological control of energy homeostasis. You will also have proven skills in molecular biology and tissue culture techniques, show a track record of success in a research environment, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should also have the ability to work autonomously and show initiative in driving research; prioritise a varied workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines, while maintaining a high level of accuracy; follow protocols and learn new techniques in a concise and skilled manner; work constructively and effectively within a large team; relate well to others and form positive working relationships with a wide range of people; use computers and search the relevant databases necessary for the project; and have knowledge of statistical procedures.
