Opposition in Council demands mr.Rahman khan CENTRAL MINISTER resignation.. is it fair? Pls comment. The Times of india. PAGE NO.5. Call for CBI probe into alleged misappropriation of funds The Opposition in the Legislative Council on Thursday demanded the resignation of Union Minister K. Rahman Khan accusing him of being involved in misappropriation of funds in the Amanath Co-operative Bank. They also demanded a CBI probe into the alleged misappropriation. Janata Dal (Secular) Floor Leader M.C. Nanaiah tabled a call-attention notice on the alleged misappropriation of funds. CID findings Pointing out that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had conducted an inquiry into the episode, following a complaint filed by the then chairman of the Amanath bank, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, he alleged that the CID had confined its probe to misappropriation to the extent of Rs. 38 crore by only three people, and had desisted from mentioning anything about Mr. Rahman Khan. Contrary to this, the audit reports and the Reserve Bank of India’s inspection reports had alleged that 17 companies owned by his family members had failed to repay loans amounting to Rs. 45 crore taken by the bank when he was an integral part of the bank’s administration, Mr. Nanaiah alleged. Alleging that there was political pressure on the CID to desist from including Mr. Rahman Khan’s name in the report and the charge sheet filed by it, he maintained that only a CBI probe could throw more light on the issue. He demanded that the Union Minister resign to facilitate a fair probe. His demand was endorsed by the BJP members led by Leader of the Opposition D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who said the money that was allegedly misappropriated belonged to the poor people who had deposited their daily earnings in the bank. He urged Minister for Co-operation H.S. Mahadeva Prasad to order an inquiry under the Co-operation Act. However, such demands were turned down by both the Minister for Co-operation and Home Minister K.J. George. He said the CID neither named Mr. Rahman Khan nor his family members in their report. Pointing out that the CID had filed charge sheets in this regard before a city court in 2006 itself and the proceedings were still going on, the Minsters said it was left to the court to take a call on whether there was a need for a fresh probe
