Optimistic Holiday Weekend Forecast! HOTTEST WEATHER YET: With highs in the upper 90s today and Wednesday, and the heat index from 102 to 107, take precautions to stay out of the sun as much as possible. Take frequent breaks. Drink plenty of water. Most folks will stay dry. Any cooling showers will be isolated and scarce. There wont even be much relief at night, with mid 70s and high humidity. 4th OF JULY HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Keep your fingers crossed. It appears a rare summer front could bring a little heat relief just in time for the 4th of July. The front will deliver somewhat drier air, and lower temperatures. Timing is everything, but it appears that we could see one of the nicest 4th of July forecasts possible. Stay tuned. This will likely linger into the 4th of July weekend, too. Highs will be in the lower 90s and the rain chances will be rather small. Generally 20% or less. TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR: Tropical depression was upgraded to Tropical Storm Arthur this morning, off the Florida coast. It will likely remain a tropical storm through Thursday. It could, possibly become a minimal Hurricane by Thursday night or Friday morning off the North Carolina coast. This could have a significant effect on the plans of thousands of people planning 4th of July beach weekend especially in the Carolinas. This will not affect the weather here in Alabama. BEACH FORECAST: Lots of sunshine. Widely scattered thunderstorms through the rest of the week and into the weekend. High generally near 90 to the lower 90s. West winds 10-15 knots will become northwesterly Wednesday and Thursday. Gulf water temperature 85 near Gulf Shores and 80 at Panama City Beach. A moderate rip current risk remains in effect. WEATHER RADIO PROGRAMMING: Because of the holiday this week, we are taking this Thursday off, but the next Thursday, July 10th, we will be at the Walgreens in Prattville, programming weather radios again. Other stops on this tour include Tuskegee and Opp. If you dont have a weather radio yet, you can buy one at a discounted price and we will program it to alert you for your county. --Rich Thomas, Doppler 12 StormVision Meteorologist Facebook: Rich Thomas WSFA 12 Weather Twitter: RichThomasWSFA
