Option 1 Centres Bohinj & Trilobit Centre Bohinj is located by one the most beautiful lakes in Slovenia. It is here, in the centre of the Triglav national park, that CSOD study the history of Bohinj as well as the ecological problems of today. The crystal clear lake is great for canoeing, mountains around are ideal for hiking tours, orientation expeditions and rock-climbing. This is also the location of the Vogel ski resort. You can also take in all seven of the Triglav lakes, the mysterious Mostnice gorge or simply go for a cycle along the lake and visit nice little villages where one search for the remains of ironwork industry and Alpine dairying. Accommodation: 101 beds, 3 classrooms, 64 seats in dining room The Trilobit centre is situated on the slopes of Karavanke mountain chain, on the bank of a small artificial lake, next to the old Javorniški Rovt hydroelectric station. It is surrounded by forests and mountain pastures on all three sides. The entire Karavanke slopes above Jesenice are rich with fossils. In the centre’s province trilobite fossils were found of maritime creatures that became extinct over 600 million years ago. Iron ore and manganite ore mining are synonymous with the mountain region, so many activities in the Trilobit centre are thus connected with geology and ironwork. There are also a geological-paleontological workshop and a permanent exhibition of rocks and fossils of the Karavanke. Centre participants enjoy hiking among the daffodils, looking for fossils and iron ore, making a trip in the mine gallery and walking around Pristava and a botanical garden of Karl Zois. Accommodation: 58 beds, classroom, small gym, 32 seats in dining room Option 2 Centre Rak & Breženka Centre Rak is located in the Rakov Škocjan park landscape. Rakov Škocjan is one of the oldest protected areas in Slovenia. There are exceptional locations and sites there including natural bridges, underground streams and all sorts of different kinds of caves. A great thrill to have is on the Rak river exploring the caves. Also cycling the trails along the Cerknica lake. Rakov Škocjan is an ideal starting point for hiking along the forest trails. In the valley there is a naturalistic learning trail with explaining boards. Accommodation: 50 beds, classroom, 50 seats in dining room The centre Breženka is situated just a few steps away from the shore of the Adriatic Sea. This is a centre explores the sea and the life in the tidal zone. (It’s also quite popular for romantic walks along the beach). At Breženka, one can go to the Strunjan cross above the Moon cove or to Piran or to take a boat to the saltpans of Sečovlje. The two freshwater lakes almost on the beach are a real sight worth seeing and so is everything that is connected with them: a spring migration of frogs and toads, their spawning and a nuptial flight of dragonflies. Accommodation: 76 beds, 30 seats in classroom, 70 seats in dining room Option 3 Centre Peca & Škorpijon The Peca centre is situated in the shelter of Mt. Peca, covered in mysterious legends about King Matjaž, the mine dwarf “bergmandlc” and the treasure of the Grauf farm. Lead and zinc mine and ironworks left their stamp on the region and in the past, miners in search for luck and riches explored the surface as well as the underground. Nowadays the explorers are hikers, cyclists, natural scientists, skiers, families, ethnologists and others who explore along the cycling trails, the mine galleries and through the fir, pine, larch and beech tree forests, as well as the ski slope in Črna on the Austrian side of Mt Peca. Gaily coloured meadows and forests are our classroom and our centre. Accommodation: 67 beds, classroom, laboratory, 70 seats in dining room In the Škorpijon centre’s yard there is a big model of our solar system with planets, a gnome’s herb garden, a hotel for insects, a vegetable garden and many interesting things that adorn region. The big winter attraction is a “pležuh”, a unique winter one-ski vehicle that children use for descending a snowy hill. A herd of Icelandic horses is another interesting details of the Škorpijon centre. They are suitable to be ridden by children because of their height and gentle character as they do not kick and bite. From Kozjak (where the centre is situated) there are beautiful views to the east part of Slovenia and to the Austrian Styria, the Graz basin and two thousand metres high peaks of the Koralps as the centre is situated directly by the Austrian border. Accommodation: 58 beds, 2 classroom, 60 seats in dining room
