(Or is it cellulitis? I keep finding different information about cellulitis and lymphangitis) This cart horse came to Tuesdays clinic. While he was waiting in line for treatment, he peed blood and I took him inside immediately to get IV fluids. As it turned out, he has been treated by a vet for the last week, but the owner was worried and brought him to us. He has very swollen and painful legs that leak foul-smelling serum and he has difficulties walking. As you can see from the first pictures, his legs were orange with serum when he arrived. The skin on his muzzle and chin has also cracked, and the whipmarks inside his hindlegs have widened as a result of the swelling. He is being treated with anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, and if he is a bit better today I will try to walk him a bit - he was so tired yesterday that I didnt dare, I didnt want him to stumble or fall over. I tried to massage his legs yesterday, but he keeps lifting the one I touch higher and higher to get away from me, and again, after being sick with jaundice I dont trust his balance The good news is he is eating well, and at the moment of writing this he has just finished his IV fluids for the morning and is eating lunch! Last summer (2013), when I was in Norway for Ramadan, this horse came to Fluffyland and had just arrived in the area. He had been bought by a horse trader who brought him to see if Sherif was interested in buying him. Sherif says he was just like Mr Fox, fat and shiny and full of himself. I hope we can restore a bit of his former health.
