Oracle 12c Rel 1 New Features : Some useful points to remember about Container and Pluggable Database: 1) You will have only one instance for all the pluggable database within a single container database. 2) A container database has "control file, redo log files, system, sysaux, temp, undo and users files" 3) A pluggable database will have "system, sysaux, users and temp files". 4) You will find a seed database created which will be used when you clone. It will consists of "system, sysaux and temp files". 5) A non-pluggable database (say you have a database created in 11g which you want to make as a pluggable database) can be converted into a container database 6) You can also create a non-pluggable database in Oracle 12c (like what we had in 11g and before) 7) This is also referred to as "Multitenant Architecture". Because one single Container database can hold one or more pluggable database.
