Oracle Redolog groups/file? Oracle Redo file stores all the changes (meaning DDL, DML and DCL changes) happening within Oracle database by default. Minimum you require 2 redo log groups within a database for it to function properly. Each redo log group "can have multiple members" (not mandatory but atleast one redolog file), which would be a mirrored copy. Redolog files are in binary format. Redo log files are used during Recovery process, logminer and few Flashbacks operations by Oracle. Contents of Redologfiles can be set at the database level to be archived or not. Assume you have 2 redolog groups each consisting 1 member each (no mirrored copy). In that case Oracle starts writing into the redolog file belonging to a 1st redo log group. Once that file is full it switches over to the next redo logfile in 2nd redolog group. If that is full again starts overwriting (based on certain conditions) the contents of redo logfile of 1st redolog group.
