Orange Farm is a township in the Guateng Province (Johannesburg) and one of the youngest informal settlement in South Africa, with the original inhabitants being laid off farm workers, taking up residency in 1988. Many of the original dwellers of Orange Farm came from Soweto. The Orange Farm Day Care Centre was founded in 1997 by Thadeka Mlaza,which she started in her home to fulfill a need to assist parents in the township while they worked or looked for employment. Since that time, the Orange Farm Day Care Centre has grown to 130 children-28 babies, 59 toddlers, and 43 preschool learners. THis is the day care the Gullah/Geecheeangelnetwork will be working along with Global Linkages, Inc. . This is THE daycare we visited when we were in South Africa. We will stay connected and help support them!
