Orden, My boy, Named after a royal bloodline. Val-Orden. The Runelords. Oath bound kings who would be endowed physicaly with the powers of their peolple. To recieve an endowment it must be given freely by another. The more they wish to give it to you the more you would recieve. A person can only ever give one endowment, once they have thats it, no more. An oathblund lord never asks for an endowment. When approached by a peasant who asks to sell his endowment, an oathbound lord gives him the coin and leaves the endowment with him. An oathbound lord is sworn to use his endowments to serve his people and they in turn serve him. An endowment of stamina would let you run for hours tirelessly and with three you would never need sleep. You would be able to sustaine wounds that would kill a man with ease. But the person who gave his endowment would sicken easily and is prone to infection and ailments. With an enowment of metabolism you could run faster, move quicker and age at twice the rate as well, helpful if a prince must soon become a king. A runelord who takes to many endowments of metabolism will age much more quickly. The dedicate however falls in to a deep sleep and seems to not age at all. Th greater endowments, Brawn, Metabolism, Wit, Grace, Stamina, Beauty. The Lesser, Touch, Smell, Sight, Sound, Taste, All given by dedicates to serve their lord so in turn he can serve his people. One must be careful and balance his endowments lest he become a worrior of unfortunate proportion. To many endowments of metabolism and not enough grace will make your movements to quick and awkward throwing off your coordination. Not enough brawn and you couldnt control the movements at all. A Runelords dedicates must be cared for lest they die. If a dedicate dies they take thier endowment with them. But if the Runelord dies the dedicates endowment is returned. Now wit is a powerful endowment. Just a single endowment of wit and you can remember everything you ever saw, felt, tasted, heard, or smelled. You could recall every word ever spoken to you and access it at leasure. But if you give an endowment of wit and in turn are given it back by the same person a funny thing happens. You share it, two minds become one. An everlasting connection between two people save on the occasion one dies. These people who share wit are called the Days. One is appointed to follow and witness the events in the life of a king from birth. The other is to record what his counterpart has witnessed. I wanted to eventualy read orden this book, sadly I no longer have the collection. I named my son after that oathbound line of Kings, I adore him and love him unconditionaly. I would give any one of my endowments to make him a better man, a more capable person, a better leader.
