Oregonians Against Horse Slaughter is a group comprised of horse owners, rescues, trainers, and other concerned citizens. We oppose the slaughter of horses in the United States, and specifically Oregon, for multiple reasons. We do not believe that our tax dollars should be spent subsidizing foreign interests in a failing industry that does not provide food for Americans. Commercial horse slaughter is not and cannot be made humane, and the food safety issues are enormous. Horse slaughter is a predatory for-profit business, not a replacement for responsible ownership practices. Further, slaughter plants also kill communities with increased crime rates and burdens on municipal resources. We ask that Oregon residents step forward to protect our state, and our horses.
