Organic farmers and advocates here has launched the Vizcaya Fresh, a brand name for agricultural products produced from the three upland towns in the province. "After our series of market exposures since the previous years, we are now launching our products with a brand to market them to various consumers and markets within and outside the province," said Josephine Almirol, marketing coordinator of the Vizcaya Fresh, Organic Advocates, Inc.(VFOAI). Vizcaya Fresh products ranges from rootcrops- peanuts, Yacon, Gallang, Tuge, Ube and camote; salad products such as Japanese cucumber, carrots, raddish red and white, tomatoe and lettuce varieties; fruits – rambutan, lemon, banana, avocado, papaya, guyabano, strawberry, calamansi, pineapple, Satsuma,passion and rattan fruits; pakbet veggies such as ampalaya long and short, eggplant, green peper, okra, sitaw, squash, tomato and wing bean. Other products also include processed food such as squash noodle, tomato paste, tofu/tokwa, tomato sweets, chips and sesame dressing. Special product are also offered such as asparagus, habitsuelas seeds, honey, mascubado sugar, native chicken, coffee and prok, oyster and shitake mushroom and sprouted mongo. Vizcaya Fresh is a joint endeavor of GLM Institute, a Japanese non-government organization, Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement(PRRM) and other farmer and environment-based organizations in the towns of Dupax del Sur, Kayapa and Kasibu. The thrust of our organic product is to make Nueva Vizcaya as an "Organic State" by approaching whole supply chain with sustainable organic farming techniques, fair trading and bringing healthy and eco-friendly products to our markets, Almirol said. The Vizcaya Fresh! Organic Advocates Inc. was organized through a partnership project funded by a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The production of branded organic products was an offshoot of the funded project called Support to Improve Livelihood of Farmers through Production of Organic and Reduced Chemical Produce in Nueva Vizcaya.
