Orienteering Course for Teachers Two Evening Training Course Purpose The purpose of this training is to provide teachers with the skills, content and confidence to be able to deliver orienteering programmes within a school environment. The training sessions are designed as practical activity sessions with brief intervals for some reflective journaling which will be utilised at the end of the programme to consolidate learning. Who is this course for? This training programme has been designed in response to interest from Physical Education teachers in Mayo, however, it is equally relevant for primary school teachers Venue: GMIT - St. Mary’s Hall and Area 15 (follow signs from reception) Time: 5pm to 8pm Dates : Wednesday 8th and 15th October 2014 Content The content is structured to initially identify and develop the personal proficiency skills required to orienteer competently within a school or park setting and then to address how to introduce these skills to groups within a school context. The emphasis here is on introducing realistic techniques that are appropriate to the class size and time constraints in schools. The content will include: · Skills of the game · Map symbols · Taking control · Active learning approaches in orienteering · Utilising spaces and resources · How to develop your own resources Whilst these two sessions of training for teachers can be considered as a standalone event course, participants may wish to further their training by completing the new GMIT Level 6 Orienteering Module.
