The call Im talking about came from “Engage America Action” who claimed to have sent a mail piece claiming that people weren’t registered and needed to return a form before Oct. 7th. The group, the mail piece and the phone number were completely bogus and gave fraudulent information. Here’s a transcript of the robo call: “Hello, this is Mary from Engage America Action. I’m calling you today because you received a very important mail piece from Engage America Action. Records indicate that you are NOT registered to vote at your current address in the state of Illinois. It is important that you complete the voter registration form that is attached to this mail piece and mail it back immediately to the address provided. The deadline to register for this November’s election is October 7th. This call was paid for by Engage America Action and not authorized by any candidate or any candidate’s committee. 630.534.3078.” This was not just a dirty trick. This was a serial felonious act and should be treated accordingly. I’m not sure how widespread these calls were, nor if it was the only one sent. I dont know how targeted they were... I don’t want this post to morph into a discussion of all the reasons voter turn-out was low. Let’s stay focused on robo calls. This isn’t the first time robo calls were used to suppress turnout in DuPage County. Shouldn’t we collectively demand authorities to use all means possible to not only investigate, but to inform citizens to be aware of such illegal practices to minimize the future damage of these calls? How can we achieve this goal?
