Orpheus was a strange boy Not like the other kids He dreamed his way through life Behind invisible eyelids The other children thought him strange But he was not concerned His teachers could not comprehend What he’d already learned The world is a song So just sing along The world is a song So just sing along He grew into a young man But he grew in his own way In some ways, he grew younger With the passing of each day Rooted in the stars, his trunk And branches in the ground He fed on silent symphonies Where others heard no sound The world is a song So just sing along The world is a song So just sing along When the time came to bear fruit From flowers unseen Sprung from green, hidden shoots The world thought him so destitute He ripened with song While above the ground They thought him mute The world is a song The world is a song The world is a song Sing along Some would say his lover Was a fantasy at most A fragment of the dreaming, An imaginary ghost Yet she was his reality His absolute epitome Embodiment of harmony But something went wrong She disappeared So he followed the wisps of her song Deep into the world beneath his ear. ©Jeff Thompson 2013
