Osborne Road / Lyndhurst Gardens c1962 Picture taken from attic of 26 Lyndhurst Avenue, the cyclist is approaching Lyndhurst Gardens bridge across the electrified coast railway, now the Metro. The houses all backed onto the railway - which was fine for the electric trains, but not so good when the steam hauled coal trains went past, belching smoke and sparks onto the lineside and back gardens! Just round the bend, just out of sight, one of the semi house owners had a garage constructed between his and his neighbours property. In 2013 its still there. It was just big enough to house a Mini, although how he did it required a commendable limbo act! Sometimes it must have been left without handbrake, and steering dead straight, to be pushed in, or pulled out. I suspect it hasnt housed anything more than cycles for a long, long time!
