Osita Chidoka inaugurates Committee on Revenue Collection, Accident Investigation ABUJA (Aviation Ministry Report) - The Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka has inaugurated the Committees on Nigeria Aviation Industry Aeronautical Charges and Nigeria Aviation Industry Aircraft Accident Report Status in the quest to reposition Nigeria as an aviation hub and to ensure that passengers and all users of Nigerian airport facilities pay the charges obtainable in other countries across the world. While inaugurating the Committee lately, the Minister observed from the terms of reference of the Committees that the Ministry was seeking to review all Nigeria’s aeronautic and passengers’ charges to determine their usage as well as unravel the factors responsible for any disparity. He also explained that the task of the Committees include aligning the system with global best practices, especially with those countries which have similar regional conditions. According to him, the Committees are charged with deciding, recommending and conducting analysis in a view to place the aviation industry in a competitive advantage and reverse the current trends in the industry. Speaking on the Nigeria Aviation Industry Aircraft Accident Reports Status at the inauguration, the Minister averred that the Committee is a product of the Ministry’s quest to improve on the comfort and security of Nigerian passengers and air travellers; noting that aviation is a global industry which the government could never overlook. He further articulated the terms of reference of the Committee to include: assessing update on Nigeria’s Aviation Industry Aircraft Accident Reports from 2000 to the present; preparing an evaluation towards pinpointing the extent of compliance with all approved recommendations; determining the level of alignment with global aviation industry best practices and making necessary recommendations on such analysis prepared. The Aviation Minister congratulated the Committee members and wished them fruitful deliberations; saying they have four weeks to report back to the Ministry for appropriate actions to be taken. Also speaking at the occasion, the Chairman and Leader of the 9-member Nigeria Aviation Industry Aeronautical Charges Committee, Ahonsi Unuigbe in his response expressed appreciation to the Minister and pledged total support for the quest to reposition the aviation sector. He added that they will do all within their means to affect a good job. In his remarks, the Chairman and Leader of the Nigeria Aviation Industry Aircraft Accident Reports Status, Victor Iriobe (Capt) uttered gratitude for the opportunity offered to them; promising unalloyed support to the task. “The Committee comprising of seven members is made up of stakeholders from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB); Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Federal Ministry of Aviation,” he explained.
