Osun 2014: Senator Adeleke lied against me —Gbenga Daniel •Daniel called me and we discussed extensively —Adeleke The recent declaration of gubernatorial ambition of Senator Isiaka Adeleke on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Osun State has started to generate ripples as the former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, on Sunday denied that he called the former over the plan by President Goodluck Jonathan to drag him into the race. He said there was never a time he called Adekele on behalf of Mr President or communicate with him over the inability of President Jonathan to get him on phone, regarding decision to persuade him to contest Osun gubernatorial race. It would be recalled that Senator Adeleke, while obtaining his intention form from the Osun PDP secretariat, in Osogbo last week Thursday had claimed that former Governor Daniel called him on phone, stating that Mr President had tried to speak with him (Adeleke) about his decision to back him for the governorship election. Daniel, however, contended that Senator Adeleke’s name was only mentioned in a discussion as one of the stakeholders in the politics of Osun State, dismissing the claim by Adeleke as false and unfounded. Reacting through a text message forwarded to our correspondent, the former governor of Ogun State simply stated that “It’s absolute false. His name was mentioned in a discussion as one of the stakeholders no more”. When contacted, Senator Isiaka Adeleke said the former Governor Daniel called him and they discussed extensively on the need to address the seeming dwindling fortunes of the PDP in Osun State and how it could be addressed to brighten the electoral chances of the party ahead of the August 9 governorship election. Speaking through his director of Media and Publicity, Mr Taiwo Akeju, Senator Adeleke contended that “We have passed that stage now. Our major focus is how to ensure that Senator Adeleke wins the forthcoming governorship election on the platform of the PDP and restore the hope of the masses, who have been subjected to harrowing poverty and hardship under the All Progressive Congress (APC) led state government”.
