Osun Borrowed To Pay Salary: THE Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has, on behalf of the workforce in the state, appreciated the governments of Rivers, Lagos and other All Progressives Congress (APC)-controlled states for bailing out the Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on the inability of his government to pay workers’ salary as and when due. According to the PDP, in a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa and made available to newsmen, on Friday, the APC governors’ action enabled Aregbesola’s government, “which apparently lacks respect for the welfare of workers,” to pay part of July salary of workers. “But we wonder for how long the APC governors will continue to bail out Aregbesola and his government, which has mortgaged the state through needless debts and loans despite having no tangible achievement to show for the excessive borrowing in the last three years and eight months,” the statement read in part. The PDP warned civil servants in the state not to be deceived by Aregbesola’s eleventh hour payment of salaries through subventions from APC states, saying this was unsustainable and at best targeted at hoodwinking the workforce to vote for the APC, after which the government will continue its harsh treatment of the workers. “We doubt if a government that failed to contribute to the statutory pension of its hardworking workforce and still used the workers’ contribution as collateral for needless borrowing can be trusted as it faces rejection from the people ahead of a governorship election,” the PDP stated. It is none of their business —Osun govt Reacting, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere said the PDP should mind its business by not dabbling into how the state government sourced funds to meet its obligations. “I feel the PDP should face the problems bedevilling their party rather than meddling into issues that do not concern them. That Rivers, Lagos State or even the World Bank lent Osun State government money to pay salaries is nobody’s business. “As a government, we have the capability to source for money even when the Federal Government is yet to pay our reduced statutory allocations. “So, it is none of their business. We have the wherewithal to source money whether through our Omoluabi savings accounts or any other means that suits us. We have paid up to July and we are not owing any worker in Osun. This is paining the PDP as a party that we are able to meet up with our commitments. “What they thought they would do is hold on to our allocation so that we would not be able to pay. Without the June and July allocations being paid to us, we have paid all our workers to date,” he submitted.
