Osun Election Petition Tribunal Update: Aregbesola Opens his Defence Today. By Ibrahim Lawal Esq In the last 14days, Omisore and PDP have tried strenuously to proof their case before Justice Kpejome led Election Petition Tribunal. They have called a total of 43 witnesses which includes 2 experts in a petition challenging over 912 polling units. They alleged in their petition that eligible voters were not allowed to vote while those accredited were disallowed to vote. Despite this allegation of non-voting, no single prospective voter who was prevented from voting was called as a witness despite clear provision of the law on election petition which states that any persons prevented from voting who is qualified to vote shall come to court with his voters card and proof from the register that his name was not ticked. When the petitioners witnesses were asked under cross examination to mention the names of those who were accredited to vote and didnt vote, those of their members prevented from voting and those inelligible to vote but voted, no single name was mentioned. The petitioners also claimed in their petition that they have video recording of atrocities committed by the 1st and 2nd Respondents (Rauf Aregbesola and APC) in manipulating the August 9th election in their favour, non-was tendered while the police report they front loaded in their petition was not also tendered in support of their petition. The Governor of the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola will today open his defence as the 1st respondent in this case to further nail the coffin of the PDP in their weak kneed petition. This he will do in his unusual style by calling as witnesses, ordinary voters who are neither party agents, ward collation agents or local government collation agents. They are the ordinary voters who despite PDP shenanigans stood solidly to defend their votes. They are men and women of honour who came out to vote for the candidate of their choice and defend the mandate till the end of voting. They are coming to the tribunal to tell the court exactly what they witness on the day of election. They are coming to put a lie to the falsehood of Omisore and his tutored witnesses. As we have done to their witnesses, Omisore lawyers also have opportunity to cross-examine them in order to test their credibility and the veracity of their claim whether they are witness of truth or not. We shall serve you the full account of whatever transpired in court today, God willing!
