Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday - TopicsExpress

Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday expressed fear over 2015 general elections, regarding what the party termed anti democratic stance of INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega. The party said it was led to this conclusion because of several reasons, especially, the manner the INEC boss is handling the issue of Osun state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Ambassador Rufus Akeju, whose resumption back in the state has been generating controversies. PDP, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Strategy, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said it is suspecting Prof. Jega may deliberately bungle 2015 poll, if APC fails to win, saying as it appears, the INEC boss is acting script prepared by a cabal in the All Progressive Congress, APC. The statement reads: When a court of competence jurisdiction ruled that Akeju must not conduct 2011 poll in the state, Jega still appealed the ruling. Till today, there had not been a counter ruling, still Akeju, who was removed from the Osun state after exposing all sensitive INEC data to the APC and later brought back, a day to the commencement of the inspection of materials used for fraudulent August 9 poll. Jega should tell Nigerians the rationale behind posting Akeju back to Osun state? Is Akeju the only REC in INEC? Why bringing him back to Osun when there were insinuations that the acclaimed winner of the poll is desperate to cover up its tracks? Is Akeju now in-charge of the electoral commission that he could determine where to be posted? The PDP said it raised all the questions to prevent the cabal operating INEC through Jega from plunging the country into chaos during the general election, adding we are being cheated by Jega today, only God knows who will the victim tomorrow. We implore the president, national assembly and lovers of democracy across Nigeria to ask Jega why Akeju must be Osun REC when there are over 30 other qualified commissioners in the service of the commission, it concluded.
