Other than missing the first few innings of the game, it was a good night for our newspaper at the Maine Press Association awards banquet tonight. Rest assured, the game was on my smart phone, and Vicki and I are now back in our comfy hotel room watching the Sox mount their comeback. Go Sox! Bar Harbor, ME – The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram received 51 Awards and was named both Daily and Weekend Newspaper of the Year at the annual Maine Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest awards dinner held this evening at the Atlantic Oceanside Resort. The awards spanned categories in reporting, storytelling, sports, photo/videography, graphics and recognized editors, columnists and reporters including Meredith Goad, David Hench, Tux Turkel, Kelley Bouchard, Tom Bell, Bill Nemitz, Bob Keyes, Greg Kesich and Kevin Thomas. First place awards included Front Page Design, Illustration, Editorial Page, Business Section, News Blogger, Features Blogger, News Video, Spot News Story, Investigative Report, Analysis, Art/Lifestyle Feature, Local Columnist, Critic’s Award, News/Sports Headline, Opinion Columnist, Sports Story, Feature and Columnist.
