Otis hosted an amazing event yesterday evening celebrating veterans in the arts! It was a great collaboration between Otis led by faculty members Joan Takayama-Ogawa and Jo Lauria, our Creative Action program, the Ahmanson Veteran Scholarship Initiative, Craft in America, and the Art Options Foundation. The evening featured a live clay demonstration by artists Jilda Schwartz and Kaija Keel, and a drawing demo by our very own Gary Geraths. Our fantastic alumni veterans Tom Van Sant, Kent Twitchell, and George Martinez were wonderful sitters for the artists. Also included was a premiere screening of Service, a TV program produced by Craft in America which will screen on PBS on Sun., Nov. 2. I highly recommend checking it out! It is moving, humbling, and inspiring portrait of veteran artists.
