Otsego Civil War Veteran: I had three Great-Great-Great Grandfathers who marched off to the Civil War from Otsego Michigan. This man is Martin Harter and his dear wife Hester Harter from 1865 Children are Eudora and Lewis. Martin was mustered out of Kalamazoo and served in Company A, 13th Michigan Infantry U.S. Union Army. Their unit took part in Shermans March to the Sea. My Great, Great, Great, Grandfather on my Grandma Loebels side. He built the last farm going west on Dam River Road, past Bittersweet, all the way to the end, on the north (river side.) The new owner just had the house burned down. (I dont know how to make those sad faces.) The middle photo shows Martin in uniform, and in his late years. Headstone pictured is My Gr,Gr,Gr,Gr,Gr. .and Martins Great Grandfather, Johann Martin Harter was one of the largest landowners in Luzerne County Pennsylvania which he received as payment for his service as a Revolutionary War Soldier. He served as a sergeant in the 8th Co. under Capt. Daniel Shnyder, 2nd Battalion of Northhampton Co. Pa., Militia, Col. George Breining. Johann was born in 1740 and came from Germany as a youth on September 25th, 1751 on the sailing ship Phoenix.
