Otter Tail Lakes Country Otter Tail Lakes Country anglers reported success last weekend and earlier this week despite cool temperatures. The walleyes were found in depths of 10-20 feet when using either jigs and minnows, or snells with leeches or minnows. Northern pike were pulled from depths of 15-20 feet along the weedlines by anglers using sucker minnows and snells. Bass were taken on spinnerbaits, as well as jigs tipped with minnows worked near the docks in 8 feet of water. Sunnies and crappies were most active in depths of 7-15 feet along the weedlines. For the most fish, use crappie minnows, wax worms, and night crawlers. 800-423-4571; ottertailcountry Detroit Lakes Area Lakes Walleyes continue to bite throughout the Detroit Lakes area. The best bite has been on live bait rigs tipped with leeches or crawlers worked in 15-25 foot depths. Expect to be bothered by perch and sunnies, but also rewarded with nice walleyes. Bass have been active in 11-15 foot depths, hitting live bait and plastics. Floyd, Long, Melissa, Cotton and McDonald lakes have been the most consistent producers of quality fish. Few reports are available on smallmouth bass action, but those received indicate a decent catch rate on Lida, Cormorant, Island and White Earth lakes. Large northern pike have been biting on Sallie and Melissa lakes, but anglers need to be aware of northern slot regulations for these lakes. Fish are also being pulled from McDonald Lake. Crappie action has been good on Tamarac and Toad lakes, especially at the outside edges of the weeds. Sunfish are active at off-shore weed beds, with smaller fish taken from dock and shoreline areas.
