Ouch; I just recieved this and dont know the right answer!! Anyone? From Daniel: Hey Max, quick question. If ive stripped off the old plaster and am down to the wooden logs, before replastering with an earthen plaster, would you reccomend nailing up some OSB wooden boards (maybe 15 or 18mm) to add a draft barrier / a little extra insulation? Then coffee bags and mesh on which to apply the plasters Daniel is a barista whos renovating an old logcabin in the backwoods of Czech (Almost in Slovakia). The plaster he mentioned was a 10cm lime plaster on the interior of one room: When I made a small hole in the plaster I condemned the building due to the logs being in a very bad powdery state, but he has since found that theres enough wood left in the logs. My take it that Architects love to use OSB for draft/moisture barrier. I personally hate using it in this application. Id estimate that the insulation is neglible; for that use a cellulose board would be much better, however Daniel likely doesnt have access to a lot of the fancy new products which would be optimal for this use.
