Our 185th Word: Kudos to our people and local officials for the minimal casualty in the typhoon Ruby onslaught. Horrible experience is indeed a great teacher. Our peoples belated evacuation in Yolanda, which caused deaths to thousands of people, made survivors leave their homes ahead of Rubys landfall. And the governments dismal preparation to prevent loss of lives and damage to properties, made our people depend on themselves and not on national government, whose help comes 3 to 5 days after the storm. The important lesson taught by Ruby is for local officials to evacuate their people to safe grounds at least 2 days before the cyclones landfall, and to adopt this measure as a custom, to be observed by our people across the archipelago, considering that the Philippines is a typhoon prone nation. Atty. Jay de Castro. MPB, Dec.10, 2014.
