Our Bill Of Rights-The American Bill Of Rights was demanded by early American patriots in order to restrict the authority of the central government and to limit the power of its leaders. Men like Washington, Madison, Adams, and Franklin knew that the power of government might become a dangerous weapon in any hands. The founders of our government were statesmen and students of history. They knew that every government might turn its power against its own citizens, imprison them, and make a mockery of personal freedom and human dignity. The forerunners of the American Constitutional Republic insisted that government leaders should be elected by the people; that there should be a wide dispersal of the powers of government among Federal,State, and Local units; and that there should be a well conceived plan of checks and balances assuring the proper functioning of our administrative, legislative, and judicial branches. Our early patriotic statesmen specified in a written Constitution that certain human relations were to be outside the authority of government. The government was specifically forbidden to infringe upon them or to violate them. The ideas of inalienable rights and individual freedom were incorporated in a national Constitution. Previously government had said: "you may or you must." Now the people said to the government "Thou shalt not." Our Bill Of Rights said in effect:" We the people are endowed by our creator with natural rights and freedom. The reason for are having a government is to protect and defend the rights and freedoms we possess as individuals." Our forefathers indicated in our Constitution these specific functions that government was to administer. They forbade government officials from doing anything not assigned to them in the Constitution. Many of the people were afraid that the elected leaders of the new government might misunderstand the ideals of human dignity and of individual freedom as being a proper function of government. So, the American people added the Bill Of Rights to the Constitution. It is filled with such phrases as: ""Congress shall make no law...The right of the people...shall not be infringed...the right of the people...shall not be violated." These personal and individual rights include freedom of worship, free speach, and free press, the right to assemble together, the sanctity of person and home, trial by jury, the right to life, liberty, and the private ownership of property. In order that no government official could possibly misinterpret his position as servant rather than master, the people added two blanket restrictions. Our Bill Of Rights specifies that: "The enumeration...of certain rights shall not be construed to deny...others retained by the people." And, the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution...are reserved to the States...or to the people." It was the individual freedom and personable responsibility out lined in our Bill Of Rights that attracted multiplied millions of people from various countries of the world representing every race and every creed. Our Country is developing individual freedom and human dignity. May each patriot strongly support and strengthen the greatest Country in the world. And oppose those who would bring us down from within.
