Our Childhood - The family car had no seat belts, head restraints - TopicsExpress

Our Childhood - The family car had no seat belts, head restraints and certainly no airbags - and Dad was still proud as a swan :-) - In the back seat it was fun and not dangerous - The cots and toys were painted in a colorful way or at least containing lead or toxic or otherwise dangerous coatings - There was no parental controls on electrical outlets, car doors, medicine bottles and household chemical cleaners - We could cycle without a helmet.... - We drank from the garden hose or other outside sources (including forest) - and not from sterile mineral water bottles - We built bobcars and other great vehicles, and those who had the good fortune to live at a steep paved road, could try to establish speed records and may find out halfway down, that you had saved on the brakes. After a few accidents, this problem was mostly solved for the future - We were allowed to leave the house to play with the only condition that we came back home before darkness - There were no cell phones ... and no one knew where we were. Unbelievable! - We had abrasions, broken bones, also broken teeth, but nobody was sued because of it - even if there was a little scuffle. No one was to blame, just ourselves - We could polish off sweets and drink sandwiches, drinks with real sugar and we never had weight problems - because we were always outside playing and running - We were four of us sharing a lemonade, drinking from the same bottle / jar without anyone dieing - We did not have Playstations, Nintendo 64, XBox, Vídeogames, 99 cable channels, WAP mobile phones, ringtones from Jamster, computers, chat rooms and blogs on the Internet (;-)) - but friends! - We were able to get out, walk or bike to visit friends, even though they lived several miles away, knocked or just went into the house without knocking, and pick them up to play - Yes, out there in the cruel world! Without supervision! How was that possible? We played football and sometimes when one was not included in the "selection", there was no psychological trauma and no doomsday - Some students may not have been as good as others, and they had to repeat the school year. No one was therefore sent to a psychologist, psychiatrist or educational psychologist. No one had dyslexia, concentration problems or was hyperactive. It was simply repeating the school year - and everyone got his chance. - We had freedom, setbacks, achievements, tasks. We had to save in order to fulfill our wishes. And learned to handle money and other things. The price question is: How did we survive this terrible time? And most importantly: How did we develop our personalities? Oh boy, we were happy!! were we not?? :-)
